My Epic Road Trip and Me (and You)

It wasn’t so long ago that Miss Ash from The Middle Finger Project and Miss Andi from Instigationology had a bit of a back-and-forth in the comment sections of their blogs about an alcohol-fueled romp across the United States.

I loved the idea and asked if they wanted some male companionship along the way. They said ‘yes,’ and the Status Quo Smackdown Roadtrip 2010 was born.

What you need to know about the road trip:

Way Below Status Quo is an online and offline networking group for ambitious individuals

The majority of folks in it are in their teens, twenties and thirties, but we don’t discriminate based on age. If you want to take life by the reins and happen to the world (rather than letting it happen to you), you’re the kind of person who belongs in this group.

This road trip is off to a good start

We had a launch party for the road trip at Matsuri here in NYC last week, and it was amazing. We had about 30 people in attendance, a lot of great conversation, themed drinks and drunken make-out sessions (one of the many hazards of this industry).

We’re visiting 22 different cities all over the US over the next month-and-a-half, with a few activities planned at each stop. Some of the activities we’ve got on the agenda so far include a nude photoshoot, surfing lessons, sand volleyball, a bike tour of local startups, a tour of the Googleplex, a workout session with a bodybuilder, speaking at various seminars and conventions, wine tours, brewery tours, choreography training, lobster boating and many, many others.

Click here see if you’re in or near one of the cities we’re visiting , and give me a shout if you’d like to be a part of the planning committee for your area. We’ve got at least one person in charge and on location for each stop, so I’ll put you in touch with them to collaborate.

You can keep up with our progress at our live blog

I’m in the process of setting up a new WBSQ website (making it a bit more intuitive and useful), but right now you can keep up with our live blogging (writings, photos, movies, etc) at waybelowstatusquo.tumblr.com. If you’re on Tumblr, we’d love to get a follow and to connect there!

A quick shout to some of our sponsors, by the way, who are helping making this whole thing possible: check out Blogger Beats and Beyond Blogging for some awesome blogging resources, and Flightster will soon have content created by myself, Ash and Andi for your perusing pleasure. Thanks to the cool folks running these sites! We’ll party in your honor.

  1. Threesome, eh? Inttteeerrreeessting.

Hoping to catch you guys in Boston, as I’ll be out of town on the 4th. Will send you an email soon!

  2. Nice nice nice. I was thinking I might not be able to make it when y’all come to Portland on Monday (SCARY!) but it’s looking like I can now. So excited to meet you all.

  3. @Alan: Haha, yeah, that’s our hashtag on Twitter, #the3some, so watch for our updates! Really hope we’re able to meet up in Boston! Nathan from NZ may be able to meet up with us, as well (he’s up in Canada for a wedding)!

@Joel: Yeah, it was pretty bad. Ended up being a great night anyway, though. Flightster is a new travel site (think Expedia or Orbitz), but focused on catering to a Gen Y audience. They don’t just want to help you find good prices to cool places, they want to have killer travel-writing content, social media interaction and fun promotions to back it up. Seemed like a fun project to me, so I joined up when they asked and here we are! It JUST started, so check it out if you get the chance. It’ll be evolving quick.

@Nate: Excellent! Looking forward to meeting you, too!
