hey Colin -

Self-discovery and finding what works for YOU is a long journey, one that I'm not pretty sure never ends. I think we all probably spend a little too much time searching for outside help to make positive changes but most of the time we've had the answers inside all the while.

There's a reason there are thousands of books on every single topic you can imagine. There isn't a single truth for each person out there...rather, it's a collection of individual perceptions that can help lead you in the right direction but, ultimately, it's you, the individual, who provides the answers that are relevant to your life and situation...

Nice! It's great to read that you've tried out different things and really realized what works best for you. I'm just naturally in that slow down mode most of the time, my stress level is almost always very, very low. It's a good thing for me, but sometimes I wish I could be more like the way you describe yourself. Really good post man.

I enjoy your writing. I just stumbled upon your blog through a link from Art of Nonconformity. It's nice to know there are other like-minded traveling designer souls out there.

Like it, Colin! It takes alot of concentration to be mentally specific when we have so many things to focus on at any given time. I like the deliberate-ness of your actions.
Take Care,
Jill

Great post Colin!

Something we all have to realize is that we are our own people and if we try and emulate someone else, the chances are it won't work.

Sure you can take aspects from someone else's success and apply it to your own life, but in the end you have to forge your own path.

So if slowing down feels unnatural to you, don't do it! You have been as successful as you are for a reason, don't lose that.

Congratulations, you have made me regret owning an electrical stove.

Also, this is brilliant: "The grass over there sure is green, but I've always preferred pavement anyway and I've got a beautiful parking lot on my side."

Absolutely fantastic post, Colin - partly because I've gone through so many of the same things. There's value in slowing down, but there's also a lot to be said for momentum.

The more I experiment, the more my approach to "less" becomes top-down. In other words, I'm not aiming for some arbitrary goal of only having or doing this much stuff. I just pare down as I go and make my peace with whatever's left.

For what it's worth, I'm also a fan of the 20 minutes of awesome idea, though I usually just call it daydreaming when I do it :)

I'm completely inspired after reading this ... look for my response to this tonight or tomorrow :P
