Colin,
I just stumbled upon you and love what you are doing. You are an inspiration as I plan to leave this 'safe' lifestyle behind and follow my dreams of traveling around the world and writing. I can't wait to start my adventure and I bet yours has been amazing.

As far as NZ goes, there is a travel writer I've been in touch with that lives there and has great information about it. Her name is Heather and she's brilliant! Here is her blog, I bet she'd love to talk to you!

Safe travels and I may have to ask you about Argentina later. I may head down that way : )

I was reading something else about this on another blog. Interesting. Your perspective on it is diametrically contradicted to what I read earlier. I am still contemplating over the opposite points of view, but I'm inclined to a great extent toward yours. And regardless, that's what is so good about modern democracy and the marketplace of thoughts online.

Like you, I consider the world to be my mentor. I've always been a do-it-yourself, teach-yourself, person (which probably has something to do with the fact that I was home schooled my entire life and that I basically taught myself from 8th grade onward).

While I know I'm capable of accomplishing anything I put my mind to, I'm also humbled by everything and everyone around me; I constantly remind myself how little I know (a quick browse through Wikipedia easily proves the point).

Striving to be just like a particular person only constrains our ability to grow. We are unique individuals. The best thing we can do is learn from, and be inspired by, the lives of others.

Having the unrelenting self-confidence to believe you're capable of anything means you can take inspiration from absolutely anyone and apply it to your own life. I try to do this constantly.

I'm looking forward to your posts from New Zealand!

Hey Colin. What I wanted to write was much too long to leave as a dignified comment. However, I just wanted to say that I truly loved this post and that it's my favorite on your blog so far. I don't think that anyone really has that awesome biped turtle sage dude from Kung Fu Panda guiding them along the way, but that we all find that through our connections with others. That's why I travel; that's why I read blogs; and, as you said, that's why you (and I, and many others, I'm sure) write them. Leaving Argentina will be difficult, most likely, but at this point, my closest friends have come from time spent on "the road" (more like "the planes"), and they each came from different places at different times and for different reasons. The more places you go, the more likely you are to meet those that you will later call your family. The hardest part is knowing that you will probably never be with all of them at once (barring some super-special event in your honor), but it's a small price to pay to know so many rad people. Oh, and congrats on deciding on NZ. I'm sure you'll have a BLAST!

NEW ZEALAND!!

Man thats exciting, I have always wanted to go there. I didn't realize you were also moving to a different part of Argentina as well. You certainly aren't trying to make things easy on yourself are you? Guess there is no reason to considering how well you seem to be doing.

Really excited to learn more about your adventures, and I look forward to the day in the (hopefully) near future where our passes will cross and you can tell me all about how you punched a local in the face over whatever the local brew of choice is.

Keep it up man!

Hate to tell you this Colin but here are the pop figures for NZ...

Total- 4.1 Mil people

Cities
Auckland- 1.3 Mil
Wellington- 500,000
Christchurch- 300,000
Everything else is Springfield or smaller.

I personally would recomend Queenstown, it's a golden goose and with 10,000 people has enough infastructure to support some towny type stuff.

Finish Argentina strong! Chris

Hey Colin. I just stumbled across your site and love what you've written and what you have been doing. I think it is fantastic. Also, I am going to New Zealand about the same time you are. I will only be there for a month this time, but we should definitely meet up while we are both there!
